Mursalski tea (Sideritis Scardica)

Sideritis Scardica is a beautiful, herbaceous, perennial nest of the fаmily Labiatae. The rootstock and the stems are basically stiff. Flowering stems are straight or upright, unbroken or branched, up to 50 cm long.

The leaves are opposite, slightly jagged or endless. The lower ones are oblong, dull, with short handles, narrow to the base, slightly dirty, and the upper ones are broadly heart-shaped, seated.

The stem at its tip is two-sided, with one portion wider and with its base embracing the other shorter and more blunt portion. The whole plant is white-white, covered with whitish fluff.

Sideritis Scardica blooms in July – September. Flowers retain their beauty for a long time and after blossoming.

In Bulgaria, Sideritis Scardica is found on the dry, stony, limestone places of the mountains, from 1400 to 2200 m above sea level. It grows well on light, permeable, calcareous soils. Propagated by seeds.

They are used: The top of the stems, together with the leaves and colors of the Mursal tea. (Herba Sideritis Scardicae). Bere in June-August. By harvesting the entire over-ground part of the plant during flowering, by removing incidental impurities.

Contents 22 microelements and minerals (Na, K, Zn, Mg, Ca, P, Si, Al, Fe, Cu, Se, S etc.), etheric oils, phenols and small quantity of caffeine

The Herb of Sideritis Scardica has a proven antimicrobial and antiviral influence. The significant content of Flavonoids may help provide protection against various diseases by contributing to the total antioxidant defense system of the human body.  Epidemiological studies have shown that flavonoid intake is inversely related to mortality from coronary heart disease and to the incidence of heart attacks. It contains tannins and etheric oils, in addition calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium and anti-oxidant selenium.

The Tea of Sideritis Scardica is recommended by doctors to heal bronchitis or other respiratory disorders, also in cases of urine and prostate illness.
