Botanical name: Glycyrriza Uralensis Fisch.G.Glabra L.
Plant form: dry roots and rhizomes of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch., Glycyrrhiza Inflata Bat. or Glycyrrhiza Glabra L. of leguminous plants.
Specifications: It is divided into two categories: fur and powder grass. Fur is divided into western grass and eastern grass according to the place of origin, and the main products in Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other places are called west grass. It is called Dongcao, which is mainly produced in northeast Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi and other places. At present, it is mainly distinguished by quality and is not restricted by region. West Grass Cylindrical, head and tail removed, skin thin and red in color, solid and powdery enough. Divided into:
①Large grass (common goods): length 25-50cm, top diameter 2.5-4cm, black heart grass does not exceed 5% of the total weight.
② Strip grass: 25-50cm long, classified according to the diameter of the top: first-class, above 1.5cm. The second class is above 1cm. The third class is above 0.7cm.
③Fur grass (common goods): Cylindrical and curved grass, with the remaining stems removed, regardless of length. The top diameter is more than 0.5cm.
④ Gedatou (Tonghuo): The roots cut off for processing, regardless of length, with black hearts in between.
Eastern grass is cylindrical, thick at the top and thin at the bottom, without cutting off the head and tail, thick skin, loose quality and light body. Divided into:
①The length of the grass is more than 60cm, and the diameter of 3cm below the reed is more than 1.5cm. More than 50cm in length, 3cm below the reed, and more than 1cm in diameter are second-class. Those with a length of more than 40cm and a diameter of more than 0.5cm at 3cm below the reed are third-class. And there can be 5% grass heads of more than 20cm.
②Fur grass (Tonghuo) Cylindrical curved grass, regardless of length, with a diameter of more than 0.5cm under the reed, with pimples in between.
Processing method: excavated in spring and autumn, preferably in autumn, and excavated 3-4 years after planting, remove the excavated roots and rhizomes from the soil, cut off branches and fibrous roots, and dry in the sun. Peel off the outer skin and claim “powder licorice”.

Pharmacology:
1. There are adrenocorticoid-like effects: mineralocorticoid-like effects, which reduce urine volume and sodium excretion, increase potassium excretion, increase blood sodium, decrease blood calcium, and atrophy of the adrenal cortical zona; glucocorticoids Sterol-like effect increases the excretion of free 17-hydroxycorticosteroid in urine;
2. Glycyrrhetinic acid has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects;

4. It has obvious inhibitory effect on gastric ulcer. Licorice liquid extract can directly absorb gastric acid, inhibit its basal secretion, relieve gastrointestinal spasm, and paeoniflorin
