Sambucus ebulus is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Caprifoliaceae family. The central root is highly developed, large, thick, and lateral rhizomes come out of his neck. The stems are annual, erect, cut, up to 2 m tall, branched, green almost bare, with a white core. The leaves are opposite, some of them are collected by 3-9 on a common handle. The flowers are white or reddish, collected in large, flat, thyroid metallic at the top of the stem. They have a weak almond-like rice. The fruit is a dark-blue or reddish spherical juicy strawberry with 3 brown seeds, with a black, sweet taste and heavy eyeliner smell. It blooms in June-July, and fruits ripen in September. It gives plenty of fruit almost every year. The whole fresh plant has an unpleasant smell and taste.
Growing on roads, near fields, bushes, rivers mainly in plains with enough moisture up to 1400 m above sea level.
Radishes (Radix Ebuli) and fruit (Fructus Ebuli) of Sambucus ebulus are used. The roots are harvested in October – November, and the fruit in September – October. The roots are dug up after the ripening of the fruits and the fruits are obtained at their full maturity when they acquire their characteristic color and taste.
The Sambucus ebulus is used in medicine for inflammation of the bladder, under the control of a doctor. It is externally applied as a means of striking snakes, spiders, axle stings, mosquitoes, etc.
