For centuries, Moroccan women have used cold pressed Argan oil for skin and hair care. It is becoming an increasingly popular ingredient in high-end skincare and hair products thanks to its remarkable properties. In aromatherapy, argan makes a perfect carrier oil for any skincare application. Argan oil rapidly penetrates the skin, leaving it extremely soft and supple to the touch. It contains many polyunsaturated fatty acids including linoleic acid, Omega 6 fatty acids, and natural tocopherols, which are all nourishing, regenerating, and protective to the skin.
Anti-aging… Argan oil is rich in antioxidants such as vitamin E, and its fatty acid profile helps reduce or even reverse skin aging. Not surprisingly, it has become a main ingredient in high-end anti-aging skin products. Anti-aging essential oils that can be added to argan in a 1-5% dilution: Corsican Helichrysum Italicum, Frankincense Carterii-Frereana, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Neroli, Cape Chamomile, Patchouli and Clary Sage. Helps remove scars and skin damage… Anti-inflammatory substances found in argan oil can help reduce the appearance of scars and other long-term skin damage. In addition, argan appears to stimulate skin regeneration to help damaged areas regain their previous look. Use the same anti-aging essential oils for scars, especially Corsican Helichrysum Italicum(no more than 2.5% of total blend), and consider adding Rosehip Seed Carrier Oil at 50% Dilution.
Hair conditioning… Argan has been used traditionally as a hair conditioner because it helps repair damaged hair follicles. It gives shine to dull hair, reduce frizziness, and makes hair softer. In addition to the hair care recipe below, essential oils we recommend for gorgeous hair are included in our Hair Tonic. (See our Hair Tonic product listing for information on the specific oils in that blend, and for inspiration on essential oils you can use for making your own blend).
