Product Description
Inner bark in whole, cut and sifted, fine cut or powder form.
Also know as IPÊ ROXO or LAPACHO.
Chemical Constituents: naphthoquinones contents (lapachol, lapachone, xyloidone), phenolic acids (veratric acid), tannins, coumarins, flavonoids and saponins.
Properties: antibacterial (against some Bacillus spp, S.aureus), antifungal (against Candida spp), immunomodulant, astringent, anti-inflammatory. Lapachol has been shown to inhibit certain tumors.
Uses: It is used as a infusion for inflammations of the upper respiratory tract (the common cold, bronchitis), gastrointestinal tract (gastritis, diarrhea) and genitourinary tract (cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis), and for feverish states. In traditional medicine it is also used for certain tumors and leukemia. Externally it is used (as a wash, wet compress) for minor skin inflammations, fungal infections, eczema, wounds and ulcers, (as a poultice, ointment) for boils and (as a vaginal irrigation / sitz bath / wash) for vulvovaginitis.
