The lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora) is a species native to South America (Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia and Peru). It was introduced in Europe by the Spanish and Portuguese in the 17th century. In the Algarve, it is called “beautiful luísa” and in other parts of Portugal it has the common name of “limonete”.
