Cold saponification is the basis for the production of all our body and face soaps, our shaving soaps and our solid shampoos. We have chosen this process because it best respects the properties of vegetable oils and provides the skin with all the care it needs.
Manufacture by cold saponification is the only process that allows the glycerin naturally present in the soap to be preserved. Highly artisanal, it requires the know-how of a master soap maker.
In cold saponification , vegetable oils and caustic soda are usually mixed at a temperature of 35°C to 45°C, unlike cooking in a cauldron, where saponification is done at a temperature between 80°C C and 100°C.
Glycerin, a natural emollient
Resulting from saponification, glycerin is a natural emollient which gives soap its moisturizing properties.
In the case of this so-called “hot” saponification (“Marseille soap”) and soaps made from “bondillons”, the so-called salting-out stage rids the soap of glycerin, which it makes extremely sticky, an obstacle industrially important. The detergent power outweighs the emollient power: these soaps therefore tend to strip and dry out the skin.
The formula that we have developed for our cold process soap is based on the saponification of vegetable oils of olive, coconut, rice bran and castor oil .
