Turmeric is a Ginger family (Zingiberaceae) with underground rhizomes. The inner flesh of the rhizome is yellow to dark orange colors with a unique fragrance. Turmeric is one of the most common Thai herbs that is used as medicinal herb or as a seasoning spice in food uses such as cooking, coloring and flavoring food, especially in southern Thai cuisines.
Curcuminoids are the active yellow compounds obtained from the rhizome of turmeric that were discovered around two centuries ago. There is a lot of research on Curcuminoids and has been used enormously in the form of crude drugs, herbal extracts or isolated compounds.
