Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) is a species of aromatic grass belonging to the poaceae family and the genes Cymbopogon. This species is native to South and Southeast Asia and is widely cultivated in Nepal, India, Srilanka, Thailand and other tropical regions. It is a perennial tufted grass that grows up to 1-1.5m tall and thrives in warm, humid climates at altitude ranging from 200 to 1200m. The essential oil of Cymbopogon Flexuosus is extracted by steam distillation of the fresh or partially dried leaves. Its harvesting season generally begins 4-6 months after planting and can continue with multiple harvests per year, depending on climatic and cultivation conditions.
