When choosing a new region to source pine oil from, we were drawn to the stunning Himalayan landscape. This is the location of large quantities of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) where the Colonial British, missing their traditional Christmas scenes, organised for trees to be imported and planted on the foothills of the Himalayas.
The trees flourished and, whilst being of limited use, are now protected by the Himachal Pradesh State to prevent felling so the Christmas landscape is preserved. However, annual pollarding of the trees is permitted to gather the pines and cones to produce essential oils.

So, soon to be in stock at Khush Ingredients UK is pure Pinus sylvestris, Himalayan Pine Needle Oil. Made from the gathered fallen cones, it is richer in alpha and beta pinene than Siberian sourced material. This oil has a fresher pine smell with beta pinene rather than 3-carene as second most abundant component.
